Bow Diddley – 2017 Block of the Month

May 1, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

The “Diddley Bow” is a homemade musical instrument consisting of a single wire stretched over a glass bottle on a single piece of wood. It is played like a guitar but has a decidedly simple sound and beat. In the 1950’s, blues musician Ellas Bates turned this sound into what we know as Rock and Roll and made famous the name “Bo Diddley” using words from a traditional lullaby “Hush Little Baby”. Many beautiful quilts were made during this time using an assortment of fabrics and Bow Diddley is such a quilt: reminiscent of a quieter time when family was the center of life and you were sure life was secure when you curled up in a quilt and Mama sang you to sleep with “Hush Little Baby”. The blocks in Bow Diddley are named for the things Mama was going to buy you and a couple of other things of that time period. The setting uses many bows for your hair, your dresses and shoes. The simplicity of the design is to help you remember a time when there was less turmoil in our world and we were younger.

Join us as we explore these 10 different blocks and two variations for the border:
“Sweet and Simple” (92”x92”) or “Sweet and Sassy” (107”x107”)
Two color options available for the blocks, and you
get to choose your outer border fabrics!
