Binding Basics



Learn several different binding techniques from our resident binding wizard Jan. She'll teach traditional hand binding to different methods of binding by machine. She'll also showcase tools to make binding more enjoyable. Available in-person or virtually.

CLASS & EVENT POLICIES:
No refunds if cancelled within 72 hours of class start time. Any refunds for cancellations made more than 72 hours from class/event start time will be in the form of a store credit, less a 10% cancellation fee. There are NO REFUNDS for outside educators, regardless of the cancel date. Classes must be paid in full at sign-up to reserve your spot.

All class & event communications will come via email by your instructor or host.

SUPPLY LIST:

Fabric:

*2 fat quarters quilted with batting in between
*1/3 yard of fabric that will be used for practice binding - 
do not cut binding ahead of time

If you have a small table runner or placemat that you want to bind, you can bring instead of fat quarters.   It must be at least 12" x 18."  Potholders are too small.  Do not cut binding ahead of time

Thread (suggest Aurifil) - match the binding fabric

*Binding Clips 
are used for both hand sewing and machine sewn binding.   Package of 10 is not enough for machine sewn binding.

You need at least one of the following:

Stitch in Ditch Foot (Bernina #10, 10C, 10D)
Walking Foot with closed toe, open toe & edge foot

You need at least one of the following:

         Quarter inch foot (if you have the Bernina 97, bring the guide)
         Walking Foot with closed toe, open toe & edge foot

Class Supplies, in addition to the above items

Sewing Machine (cleaned, oiled, and in good working order) Free Hands System, if your machine has it
Universal Needle 80/12
Straight Stitch Plate preferred but not required
Fabric marker
hand sewing needle, if you want to do that method pins
scissors/seam ripper
pen and paper for taking notes
stiletto or tweezers may be helpful
cutting ruler to cut wof strips
binding tool if you have one
*bound to fit if you have one
rotary cutter
